valentine origin, and the effects of caffeine on body composition.
The present study investigated the effect of placebo on energy levels of 2 different groups of men in a cross-located laboratory and assessed body composition of 2 matched subjects. After 3 weeks of treatment with an adenosine desaturase inhibitor (ATI) drug, daily energy expenditure for the 2 groups ranged from 0.83 g to 1.00 kcal for the 2 groups, whereas daily energy expenditure was higher with adenosine desaturase inhibitor (DAS) treatment at the end of 7–8 weeks of follow-up. DAS treatment caused a significant decrease in resting energy expenditure and a significant effect on body composition. In comparison with placebo, 3 weeks in a controlled study did not increase energy expenditure. The change in energy expenditure in DAS treatment was small (>0.02%) and did not reach significance in other studies that evaluated food intake but not the metabolic state. It should be noted, however, that this finding with regard to the energy intakes of all energy groups is due to an interindividual variation of the dosing group of adenosine desaturase inhibitors.
